Background of the Study
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of economic development in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas like Toro Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State. The adoption of agricultural innovations is crucial for improving productivity, ensuring food security, and enhancing rural livelihoods. Print media, including newspapers, magazines, and bulletins, plays a vital role in disseminating information about new farming techniques, technologies, and policies. Research by Abubakar and Yusuf (2023) underscores the importance of localized content in print media for engaging rural farmers and promoting the adoption of innovations. However, challenges such as limited access to print media, low literacy levels, and inadequate coverage of agricultural issues often limit its impact. This study investigates the role of print media in promoting agricultural innovations in Toro LGA, focusing on its strategies, reach, and effectiveness.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of agricultural innovations to transform rural economies, their adoption remains low in Toro LGA. Limited access to information, cultural resistance, and lack of awareness hinder the uptake of new practices. While print media has been identified as a key channel for disseminating agricultural information, its effectiveness in Toro LGA is yet to be fully explored. This study seeks to address this gap by evaluating the role of print media in promoting agricultural innovations in Toro LGA.
